Simple Chili Oil

Ingredients

  • 8 oz avocado oil

  • 40 g crushed red pepper flakes

  • ½ tsp Chinese five spice

  • 3 star anise

  • finish off with sesame oil

OPTIONAL:

  • peanuts, pumpkin or sunflower seeds, garlic

  • top off with green onions, sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Heat avocado oil in a saucepan to about 420°F (215°C).

  2. In a heatproof jar, combine red pepper flakes, five spice, and star anise (optional: add peanuts or garlic).

  3. Slowly pour the hot oil over the mixture, stirring gently to ensure all flakes are cooked evenly.

  4. Cool, then store in a sealed jar.
